Project Information

ICT initiatives for the agricultural sector

MICA is participating in a two and half year’s project ( 2009- 2011) funded by the National Agricultural Innovation Project (NAIP), Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi. The project has been awarded to the Consortium led by Media Asia Lab, New Delhi. MICA is a partner institution.

The Consortium will be developing a set of alternative information and communication technology (ICT) models, based on the study and analysis of major ICT initiatives in agriculture in different parts of India, to meet the information need of Indian farmers.

The project would study the major ICT initiatives in the agriculture sector vis-à-vis the felt need of the farmers in various agro socio-economic situations, especially identifying best practices. The project aims to identify the gaps in the existing information channels and suggest alternative ICT models after field testing them for qualitative impact and acceptability.
