Yes, many smartwatches available today can make calls in three different ways. One way is via Bluetooth connectivity. Your smartwatch can call people via Bluetooth if your phone is in the Bluetooth range. This is the cheapest and most easy to find option available. Another way is WiFi calling. As technology is improving rapidly, smartwatches today can connect to WiFi and make calls without your phone actually being there. It just has to be connected to the same WiFi. This is a more expensive feature and might not be available in the cheaper watches. The third way is LTE connectivity. Smartwatches with LTE options are also available in the market which do not require the phone at all. This is a very expensive feature and can only be found among the high end smartwatches in the market.

2. Can Smartwatches Take Photos?

This is a feature that has not been a strong point among smartwatches and is not available in most models. Although some high end smartwatches allow you to control your mobile device’s camera with it, when it comes to taking photographs by itself, smartwatches have not become that advanced yet.

3. How Do Smartwatches Measure Heart Rate?

Almost all the smartwatches out there that allow you to measure heart rate use the PPG or photoplethysmography technology. In this method, a green light is shot towards the skin hundreds of times per second and the reflection is noticed. More light is reflected between the heartbeats, and allows the smartwatch to accurately register your heart rate at all times. It is actually called the optical heart rate monitor and is also used for many other medical purposes.

4. Can Smartwatches Record Audio?

Although not available in all the smartwatches out there, audio recording is a feature that can be found in some smartwatches. As installing a microphone in the watch requires more money, it is a feature that is not usually included, but can be found in some high end watches that allow you to record the audio.

5. Are Smartwatches Worth It?

This question is all about perspective. Earlier smartwatches were considered a luxury, but because of the fast paced life of today, they are becoming more and more of a necessity. The ease of accessibility as compared to opening up your smartphone saves time and the ability to measure heart rate, footsteps and other such features help a lot in maintaining a healthy lifestyle in today’s busy world.
